Welcome to Piopio, A Thriving Village Nestled Between The
World Famous Waitomo Caves and The Rugged Taranaki Coast

Great ANZAC commemorations and other - Gavin Todd (Councillor)

ON BEHALF of Council I would like to acknowledge the assistance of organisations that helped to make the Piopio and Te Kuiti ANZAC day commemorations a success: Te Kuiti RSA, Te Kuiti Marae, Piopio Rural Women, Piopio Cos Club, Waitomo District Council and Specialised Traffic Management from Piopio who donated their time for the organisation of the street closure for the day, and all others who helped.

I recently attended a fire safety display put on by the Aria Cos Club and the Piopio Fire Brigade. The demonstration by the Fire Brigade was well presented and a timely reminder of how to use a fire extinguisher properly, and to check that your smoke alarms, and fire extinguishers are in a workable condition.

Several brigade members have recently attended intensive training courses. Our district is extremely lucky to have such a dedicated team of volunteers.

It is good to see a new business starting up in Piopio... Darren Cathie’s automotive business. Darren is a long-time resident of Piopio and is about to receive a 25 year gold star for his service to the Piopio Volunteer Fire Brigade. We wish him well and hope the district supports his new venture.

The Piopio Garage has recently been sold. It is great to see people have confidence to start up businesses in our area. We wish the new owners well.

Council recently heard submissions to the Draft Annual Plan and I think these have all been dealt with as satisfactorily as possible.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any concerns or queries you might have.
