Project Piopio Trust - June 2025

Children’s Painting Competition

Piopio and Aria townships will soon be enhanced with new bright and cheery children’s artwork! 180 children/students from Curious Keas, Aria and Piopio Primary Schools and Piopio College entered and completed paintings during school time in term 1this year.

They were assisted by their Principals,Teachers and Teachers Aides along with local artists Jo Gallagher, Trudy Denize, Karen McCormick, Cerise Bevege and 15 other creative locals. The topic was “What do you like/enjoy about living here in the Piopio/Aria district?” The work really showcases our district -better than a lot of tourist brochures! Paintings need to be observed closely as many include some clever detail. The paintings were judged by a team of 10 local artists/creative community members at the beginning of Term 2. Judges included Jo Gallagher,Trudy Denize, Karen McCormick, Cerise Bevege,Sarah Dudin, Hannah Bodger-Kearns, Layla Benton-Todd, Susie Verry, Lisa Lyford, Tania Fagan. This was not an easy task, judges agreed standards were high from all schools. The last of the prize givings will be at Piopio Primary on Friday, May 23. Prizes for children include acrylic or water colour paints, brushes, canvases, drawing pads, water colour pencils, drawing crayons or Connector pens -depending on the age and prize category of the student. All prizes are aimed at providing local kids with materials to keep that creativity going! It will take some time to find the right places to display each painting and to get them all printed but keep your eye on the streets at the end of June!

Piopio Christmas Parade
URGENT HELP needed to keep our Piopio Christmas Parade going! Carley and Project Piopio Trust are looking for help to run this year’s Parade. Some of Carley’s usual helpers are unable to continue, so she needs help with some of the behind-the-scenes organisation or it will become impossible to continue to hold the Parade each year. This role would suit one person with a few organisational skills or a couple of friends who lik eworking together. Carley has the job well documented so it’s easy to follow. Please email [email protected] or talk to Carley Simpson if you are keen to learn more about the role.
