Welcome to Piopio, A Thriving Village Nestled Between The
World Famous Waitomo Caves and The Rugged Taranaki Coast

Replica School Bus Project

Restoration of an original Model T Ford school bus, significant to Piopio as in 1924 Piopio District High School was elected as part of the consolidation process to run school buses.

At times during Piopio Schools' history Piopio has had the most school buses, and the longest daily route of any school in New Zealand.

At project completion the restored bus, named 'Arapae', will be on public display in Moa Street, Piopio.

The restored bus is frequently used at local community events and has now become an iconic feature during local celebrations. ANZAC day commemorations and the recent Christmas parade event proudly feature this with many generations intrigued by the beauty of the restoration work.
