Piopio College & Community Library - Here For All

Piopio Community Library is on the College grounds. It’s open Tuesday to Friday from 10am-2pm, during school terms.

Most users are students and staff of the college with only a small number from the community. This we want to change!

The library has seen some exciting changes over the last two months. Waitomo District Library has donated free-standing book shelves. This gift was well-timed because we also received several shelves of books from the former Mapiu school, mostly aimed at younger readers (age 5– 9).

The icing on the cake was our successful Trust Power Heartland Fund application. We have generously been awarded $2000. "You can never have too many books," Trust Power told us. This grant will help us purchase new and current books and expand the library’s preschool, young reader and adult sections. So thank you Trust Power.

There are many further surprises planned for the library in the future – we will keep you up to date. In the mean time we’d love to see you in the library, borrowing books or just having a chat. We also welcome the interaction between students and the greater community. You’re welcome to tell us what you want from your Community Library.

Did you know? Piopio Community Library used to live in a small building on Waka Street. Due to limited access and resources, the decision was made, 30 years ago, to merge the College and Community Libraries on the College grounds. This gave the community access to a much greater range of books, particularly non-fiction; as well as access to Interloan and other on-request library services.
