Welcome to Piopio, A Thriving Village Nestled Between The
World Famous Waitomo Caves and The Rugged Taranaki Coast

During Sep/Oct in the midst of a pandemic Piopio College packed up 19 students and 8 adults and flew down to Queenstown for their bi-annual overseas sports tour. Due to covid we couldn't play sport so we used the opportunity as a full cultural trip.

The week long tour was based in Queenstown staying at the very comfortable lodgings of The Heritage Hotel overlooking the lake and the Remarkable mountain range.

We had a variety of daily activities planned which included:
Jetboating, Gondola, Luge, gold panning lessons, puzzle world, a spec-tacular biking tour from Arrowtown down the Kawarau Gorge, minus 5 ice bar, bunjy jumping, a haunted house, ten pin bowling and a special dinner over looking The Remarkables mountain range at Stratosphere restaurant. We also did a few road trips visiting the Kawerau Gorge Goldfields to learn all about the gold rush history of the area, Wanaka, Cardrona, Cromwell, Te Anau and a boat trip around the amazing Mil-ford Sound.

The trip was led by Ben and Gina Draper and well supported by teachers Ashley Muraahi and Vanessa Chatfiled and parents Paiaka Muraahi, Donna Pari, Sheryl Griffin and Caren Herman.

An absolutely massive thankyou goes to the local business sponsors that got us there as well, we couldn't have done it without you and we are so grateful with your support for these trips (CBB, King Country Vets, Marshall Electrical, Hynds, Fat Pigeon, Night Owl, NPG, Piopio Dental, Barrows Shearing, Davis Mo-tors, Wande Ebofin and Noelle Turner). As a school we feel its really important we open our students eyes to the world which is why we will continue to offer these trips. With Rarotonga and the South Island now done we have some further afield destinations on our radar so watch this space.
