PIOPIO PRIMARY SCHOOL UPDATE

Kia ora koutou,

I am Sue Coyle, the new principal/ tumuaki at Piopio Primary School. Although my start has definitely not been what I had planned, I am very excited to be here. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome. I have met some of the community and I am really looking forward to meeting lots more.

A little bit about myself, I am married to David (who was raised in Te Kuiti). We have 3 sons all grown up doing their own thing, but do come home to visit when they can. My first teaching position was at Pukenui, where I taught for 13 years. We moved to Papamoa, which was a great experience and recently I have been principal at Hauturu School on the Kāwhia Coast. We are really happy to be back in the area with friends and family.

It was a lovely day when students returned to school on Wednesday the 17th. The smiling faces, laughing and enthusiastic talking certainly brightened up the school. The learning tasks that have been happening have been varied, science, technology, reading, writing, art and mathematics. Boats have been made and floated, gardens are being worked on, as well as art where 3D faces were created. I am feeling incredibly lucky to have a dedicated staff working with me and children who are enthusiastic about learning.

The building project continues to be worked on and there has been lots of progress made during lockdown. Windows are in, jib is on the walls and the new wiring has been completed. We are hoping to have finished classrooms before the end of the term, fingers crossed.

I am really looking forward to being part of the Piopio community, catching up with people I already know and meeting new people. My door is always open, so come and see me or if you see me out and about please say hi.

Sue Coyle
Piopio Primary School Principal
