Project Piopio Trust Update
Birdtalk Magazine June & July 2024
Firstly a little background......
The Trust was formed in 2006 in response to a marked decline in business and buildings in Piopio. It followed a number of public meetings and became the umbrella organisation for progress, with sub-committees such as communication (Birdtalk), marketing and tourism, (logo design and website), social events/hall committee, arts/creative, and a main street group looking at landscaping and appearance.
The project to research and set up the now Fat Pigeon Café was an early initiative of the Trust, and then carried on by a group of 15 local families.
A new group has recently formed including Melanie Simpson, Jenny Brodie, Maree Jones, Donna Pari and Nicky Atkinson. We are looking for another two people keen to proactively bring a renewed vision for our community. With the majority of the original planned vision almost complete, the next steps to ensure the Piopio district is a destination of choice for families, employment and visitors is ready for a fresh approach.
Our community has changed a lot since the early days of the Trust and a priority will be to consult again; watch this space!
We ask all in our district to think about ideas for the future and how we can tap into our potential to make this an even better place to live. We welcome your ideas and energy.
