Mokau Fishing Club news

Birdtalk Magazine Oct/Nov 2023

Hello all,
Well the weather has got warmer with settled spells, enabling some to get out on the water or get the line wet on the beach, with the evenings stretching out. Some good fish out there if you get amongst it and some having better luck than the whitebaiters from all reports.

Our AGM was held on Saturday, October 16, followed by a great turnout for our BBQ. We had some slight changes with the committee, with Dion standing down from president but remaining on the committee. I just want to thank you Dion for your time as president; you have done a great job over the years, and also thank you for staying on the committee.

This has seen myself, Wal Death, nominated for President for this coming season, with Phil Guddop moving into Treasurer, Max Lovell staying as secretary, and Kev Proffit still Club Captain. All other committee members remain the same apart from two new members putting their hand up to join; welcome Krystal & Roger Murray. As always, don’t be afraid to put up your hand to help out! You don’t need to be on the committee and we are always grateful for those people that do – it’s very much appreciated.

A few changes on the tech front, we have set up and invested on a website and this will now be used to enter all comps and season memberships. You can also purchase clothing/ merchandise. This is moving with the times and will make it a lot easier for the committee to run competition days and manage memberships. If you are not computer savvy, find someone to help you out or get in touch with one of the committee members and they will assist you. Take a look at the website www.mokaufishingclub. co.nz – we would love any photos you have going forward that you may get of those great catches or moments – so send them in.

Our email address has also changed to mokaufishingclub@ gmail.com.

Not long to go until our annual Ice Breaker Competition on October 21 and 22 (Labour weekend). Thank you to Hynds for being the major sponsor again. As normal, plenty of prize categories so get amongst it. Information and entry online www.mokaufishingclub.co.nz

As some are aware, the channel has moved in the river and the bar changed, so make sure you check this out before you go out. So current markers for channel are useless. Hopefully a good flood and currents in right direction will see it return to normal route.

Well that’s enough from me, we look forward to seeing everyone at the Ice Breaker Comp Labour weekend. Spread the word to your friends and family to come along.
Cheers, Wal.
