Welcome to Piopio, A Thriving Village Nestled Between The
World Famous Waitomo Caves and The Rugged Taranaki Coast

Piopio & District Museum Trust update

THE PIOPIO and District Museum Trust Committee started 2023 off with a working bee. All areas inside and out received a tidy up in preparation for the Laurensen family to visit following the memorial service for Mr Jim Laurensen on Saturday, January 21.

There continues to be a steady stream of visitors to the Museum who can self guide themselves through Bill Glasgow’s Whare and Blacksmith Shop, the plethora of items in the old Presbyterian Church, and the historic photos in the old Bank building. Visitors leave a donation and a comment in our visitors book.
One comment was simply “I love this place!”

Our Museum features in the 2023 ‘Top Spot’ magazine. "It is authentic, local and has great stories to tell."

The committee aims to bring more of our stories to life. If you have an artifactphoto or story to tell please contact Saskia Lagocki (Chairperson) to have a member collect or help record a local story.

Helpers and new members are always welcome to join our enthusiastic team!
The next general meeting for 2023 is Wednesday, March 8 at 7.30pm and the AGM is set for Thursday, June 1 at 7.30pm.
All meetings are held at the Piopio Senior Citizens Rooms.
