Fence-a-thon for our youth

ON Saturday, Piopio local Heath Barnsdall and his support crew completed a 24-hour fence-a-thon.

The event was held to raise funds for the well-being of our youth at local schools, with all fundraising going straight back into the schools to be used to buy equipment required for students to enjoy outdoor activites.

Over the past few years Heath has been helping some local children in a social worker type role, taking them hunting, fishing, diving, and teaching them skills needed to do these hobbies.

In the near future Heath plans to organise a local youth hub/drop-in centre ... somewhere where the kids can relax, learn, and grow into reasonable adolescents. The fence-a-thon is a start to this dream which Heath hopes will be a big help for some of our children and community.

Support for the event was overwhelming, and Heath and his family are extremely grateful for koha, kai, and encouragement from the community.
