Welcome to Piopio, A Thriving Village Nestled Between The
World Famous Waitomo Caves and The Rugged Taranaki Coast

The Piopio Rugby team can be very proud of what they have achieved this year.
Losing just two games, both against Taupo Sports, they secured a home semi final which is a first in over twenty years.

On Saturday the 20th of July, Piopio played Waitete in front of a huge crowd for a spot in the King Country Rugby final. Also up for grabs was the coveted Dempsey Munro Cup and JR’s shield. These are only contested between Piopio and Waitete and both highly treasured. Unfortunately Piopio lost the semi final to Waitete 26-9.

We have been very fortunate this year to have had grandstands donated by John Anselmi. We now have one located on each side of the field. Our Grassroots Trust and Trust Waikato grant applications were successful and this allowed us to add the safety compliant railings required by Waitomo District Council. White Ridge Contracting were also very efficient in seeing this project through so that our supporters could use this wonderful facility during this season.

The Club is in very good heart with a great group of young men who put their bodies on the line every weekend. There is a fantastic committee who work extremely hard behind the scenes.

Special mention must be made to Gareth Williams for enabling our club to have the grandstands in use this year and to Derek Kloeten for helping Gareth and Gary each home game and having the fields looking so pristine.

We are very lucky to have such supportive sponsors again this year and appreciate how the community gets behind Piopio Rugby Club. Whether it is the big turnouts at home games or those who take time out of their weekends to follow the team on away games – thankyou. It does not go unnoticed by the team and is always a huge motivator.

We are privileged to present a large number of blazers this season for players who met the milestone of playing fifty games for Piopio. It is a massive sign of commitment and dedication to the club. The Club would like to congratulate the 2019 recipients: Taie Teriuea, Adam Black, Scott Bradley, Andrew Blackmore, Jeff Davis, Jake Hiriaki, Luke Draper and Bradly Jeffries.

Piopio Rugby Club prize giving is on Friday 9th August.
